Smoother Sailing in 2023
April 14, 2023
Happy Friday!
Time for another shipping news update.
Thankfully, it has been mostly quiet as many of the supply chain issues of the past few years are behind us.
Overall, we are seeing much smoother sailing in 2023, with much better transit times and for most lanes, greatly reduced costs compared to the last couple of years.
Moving crew labor continues to be tight, with some of that being offset by the reduced volume the industry is seeing right now.
Beyond the various weather events, we are keeping a close eye on various labor strikes.
Last week there was a work stoppage at the Port of Los Angeles and while there was no real impact felt, we will continue to monitor. This port is less critical than it was two years ago as much of the volume has shifted to ports on the East Coast and Houston.
We are also expecting to see delays between the EU and UK due to congestion at the port in Dover.
In other news, on Wednesday we reported our email was down and it was restored shortly after.
Finally, one of our favorite survey quotes from the first quarter.
“Melissa was amazing. She always had the answers to my questions and was very responsive to any inquiries I had. I highly suggest giving her a raise because she’s clearly a top employee.”
Thank you Melissa and thank you all for reading!
As always, feedback is always welcome, and have a great weekend!
