Ports in Canada resumed operations today, and all will be operational by tomorrow. This action came at the hands of Canada’s labor board, which ordered the workers back to duty while talks continue.
In the USA, negotiations have come to a halt between dock workers and the owners of the eastern and southern ports. The critical issue remains the worker’s objection to any technology that would take work away from them. If they do not return to the table to continue negotiations, we will likely have another port strike in mid-January.
In Spain, the devastating flash floods in Valencia have caused significant damage to the region, causing challenges for operations there, including transportation in and out of the surrounding areas. These challenges will last into the early part of 2025.
Earlier this week, protests at the Mexican border caused severe delays at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, TX. This land port is one of the most significant trade gateways in the US.
Finally, if you have shipments in and out of Israel, insurance underwriters have added some exclusions due to the situation there.
